At St. Monica's School we deliver the curriculum in accordance with the statutory requirement established through the National Curriculum. There are clear guidelines and expectations for teaching and learning within each of the subjects of the National Curriculum which include languages, Maths, Science, Social Studies, Art and Value Education.
The curriculum is responsive to the needs of our children and to changes in society.
We ensure that it is broad, balanced, relevant, inclusive, well-planned and exciting.
We engage our children’s learning through a curriculum that develops, stretches
and excites their imagination. In our school, you will see children learning outdoors,
through play, in small groups, through sports, music and arts; from their teachers
and peers. This diversity of experience allows every child to enjoy the learning
process and sets the foundations for life-long learning.
The school develops skills in Art and Crafts, music, dance, drama and creative expression, both within the curriculum and in extra-curricular opportunities.
Music—vocal and instrumental is a unique form of expression that changes the way we feel, speak and act. Our teaching develops children’s ability to listen to and appreciate a wide variety of music. They also have opportunities to play a variety of instruments and to sing individually and collectively.
Physical education embraces a wide range of physical activities and ways of working, from individual, to small group, to whole team activities. It includes various games, exercises, dance and gymnastics. It develops children’s competence and confidence and promotes positive attitudes towards active and healthy lifestyles. Physical education provides opportunities for children to be creative, competitive and to face different challenges as individuals and in groups and teams. Children also receive Education in moral and aesthetic values and in Personal, Social and Health Education.
Children in their Pre-Primary classes follow a foundation stage Curriculum.
